The Rule of St. Benedict was written in the first half of the sixth century by St. Benedict of Nursia, Italy (c. 480-547) for all who seek God. It is remarkable in its simplicity and flexibility and is still followed by Benedictines all over the world. Its hallmarks are rootedness in community (stability), and balance in daily life through work, prayer, study and leisure.
Our community was founded by two monks, formerly of Mount Saviour Monastery in Pine City, New York, in 1998 by invitation of the Bishop of Beaumont, Texas. Our purpose is to seek God with balance and wholeness through a life of work, prayer and community under the Rule of St. Benedict.
Unmarried men (normally between the ages of 25 and 45) who are free of attachments (e.g. dependent family, children, financial obligations) and desire to seek God in a Roman Catholic Benedictine community are encouraged to write to the Vocation Director. Please be sure to include your name, address and telephone number. We will be happy to answer any questions you may have.
Oblates are lay members of the Monastery who pledge to follow the Rule of St. Benedict in their daily lives wherever they live and work. Oblates meet at the Monastery once a month for fellowship and spiritual support. If you have any questions or are interested in the Oblate program, click here for a brochure of the Oblate program or write to us. A description of Oblates from the International Benedictine Oblates' page can be seen here.

Fr. Laurence Freeman, a Benedictine monk from England, was with us to give a talk on Meditation and the Hunger for Depth and Meaning. He is the leader of the World Community for Christian Meditation, and travels worldwide teaching the discipline of Christian Meditation in the tradition of Dom John Main, OSB. At right is a short video excerpt of his talk, a how-to introduction for those wishing to meditate.
